1. What is Shared Hosting?
We specialize in shared hosting which means that you can find a home for your
Web site on our Web servers and establish a presence on the Internet. We will
help register your own domain name which will become your unique address on the
World Wide Web. Having your own domain name does not reveal that you are renting
Web space, and, since e-mail can be addressed to your domain (eg. WWW.YOURNAME.COM
) you will not have to announce a new e-mail address if you change Internet providers.
And, with a domain name you can transfer your Web presence at any time and never
lose your identity since you can take your www.yourname.com with you.
2. Will I be able to access my domain name with or without the WWW?
Yes, you will be able to access the domain name with or without the WWW in front.
For example, you could access the domain name "mydomain.com" by going
to "www.mydomain.com" as well as "mydomain.com".

6. Does Tackhosting handle domain registration?
Yes. We will contact InterNIC once your account is activated to request either
a new domain name registration or transfer. You do NOT need to submit a registration
or modification template to the InterNIC as this will only delay your request.
7. Can I transfer existing domain name to Tackhosting?
Yes. Whether you place an order by telephone or via our website, be sure to
specify that you are requesting a transfer and NOT a new domain. You should
keep the service at the present site while waiting for InterNIC to complete
the transfer. We will provide you with a online pokies temporary address so you can mirror
the site on our server. All e-mail and web pages will still be accessed from
the current site. When InterNIC announces the completion of the transfer there
is a 36 to 48 hour propagation period where visitors could go to either site.
At the end of the propagation period you should contact the previous host to
have them delete the old domain from their records and update their DNS record.
If you use this same provider for your Internet access you will not be able
to access your domain site at Tackhosting until they update their DNS.
8. How long does it take before my domain name is active?
Once the InterNIC announces that your domain name has been registered (or transferred,
if applicable), it usually takes about 36 hours before it is active. All internet
providers must update their records (DNS tables) to reflect new site locations.
This is called propagation.
9. What is the InterNIC fee for domain registration?
Network Solutions, the former domain registration monopoly, charges $35 per
year to register a new domain name. They currently bill at a rate of $35 per
year. But now there are many domain name registrars and registration providers.
Tackhosting can register your domain name and give you, in our opinion, more
personalized service. Use this form to find out if the name you want is available.
10. Does Tackhosting limit the number of hits I can receive each month?
No. Our experience has shown that 2GB/month is more than enough bandwidth for
99% of all websites and we use it as a bench mark. Depending on the quantity
and size of your files, the transfer limits you are allowed could support many
thousands of hits per day. If your site begins to exceed your data transfer
limits each month, we will contact you about upgrading so performance doesn't
suffer.
11. How do I transfer files to my web site?
Files must be transferred to the web server via File Transport Protocol (FTP)
or through our online management portal. An FTP tutorial is available for first
time users.
12. What is a hyperlink, and how do I add them to my webpage?
A hyperlink is simply a text string or a graphic (button, logo, etc.) preceded
in the HTML of the page by a bit of code which includes the URL of the site
to be linked. Clicking allows the user to travel to the indicated destination
URL. It is a simple matter to add these to your pages. You will need to know
the web address (URL) of the destination page. Tackhosting technicians can normally
add these to your pages for you, at no charge. However, the best method is usually
to create a Links page on your site, a special place to put all your links.
We can usually create links pages complete with a healthy list of links for
about $35 to $50. What we need includes: the location of the links to be added
into your site, or the location of the link to the links page; the title and
possibly a brief description of the site to be linked; the URL to which you
would like the link to go; and the manner in which the linked site is to appear
(will is appear in a special frame, or in a popup window, or will it appear
in the same browser window as the link, etc.?).
13. Will I have unlimited access to update my pages?
You have unlimited access via FTP 24-hours a day. As such, you can create and
maintain your web pages on your own computer and upload files to your web site
at your leisure.
14. Can multiple domains point to the same HTML files?
In general, if you have more than one domain account at Tackhosting we can point
each domain address to the same HTML files. Contact sales to determine whether
this can be accommodated. Also note that the same fees will apply for all accounts
in question.
15. Can I use my account for commercial purposes?
Yes, you can use your account for commercial purposes. The World Wide Web has
become a most efficient and cost-effective means of making information, products
and services available to the users of the internet community.
16. Can I resell space within my own account?
No. You can not resell space within your account. We offer referral fees to
Web consultants and designers, however.
17. Do you accept international orders?
Yes. We are pleased to have customers around the world and we're as close as
your computer. If desired, we can host non-US domain name extensions.
18. Do you offer technical support to customers?
Yes. We encourage our customers to send email to support@tackhosting.com with
questions or concerns about their web site. We are relatively quick to respond
to support e-mail up to about 8pm MST on week days. If we cannot offer a solution
to a concern within a reasonable timeframe, we will invite you to call us or
we'll call you directly.
19. How long does it take to set up a new account?
Orders for servers will be configured within an hour of receipt, and if you
order by phone we will most likely have your server set up by the time the call
is finished. Once an account is set up an activation notice will be sent you
via email including a userid and FTP hostname. You can begin uploading files
to your new web site immediately. Domain account users will be given a temporary
URL to access their site via the web prior to the completion of either domain
registration or transfer.
20. How do I place an order?
You can place an order directly from our Web site 24 hours a day or by calling
###-###-#### between the hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, or
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Mountain Standard Time. Mountain time is 2 hours
earlier than Eastern, one hour later than Pacific.
